What Happens During an Online Tarot Reading? A Grounded Guide to How It Works

Online tarot readings are more common than ever, but they’re also widely misunderstood.

For many people, their only exposure to tarot online has been instant card pulls, automated apps, or quick “yes or no” answers on social media. While those can be entertaining, they often don’t reflect what a thoughtful, personalised online tarot reading actually looks like.

The way I work with tarot online is very different from that. My own online tarot and oracle readings are written reflectively and designed to help people slow down, process what they’re experiencing and explore situations with more clarity rather than chasing quick predictions or fixed answers.

For me, an online tarot reading is a quiet, reflective process focused on clarity, perspective and emotional insight rather than speed or spectacle.

This post explains what an online tarot reading actually is, how my own readings work and what you can realistically expect from the experience.

What an Online Tarot Reading Is

An online tarot reading is simply a tarot reading carried out remotely rather than face to face.

Instead of sitting across from me in person, the reading is completed privately and delivered digitally, usually as a written reading you can return to in your own time.

This is the format I use for all of my tarot and oracle readings because it gives people space to absorb the reading naturally rather than feeling pressured to process everything immediately.

The core of the reading doesn’t change just because it’s online. Tarot isn’t really about physical proximity. It’s about interpretation, reflection, and how the cards are read together within the context of your situation.

Working online simply removes the need to be in the same room.

For many people, that distance actually makes the experience feel calmer, more accessible, and easier to process.

How My Online Tarot Readings Work

While every tarot reader works differently, my online tarot readings follow a steady, considered process.

First, you choose the type of reading you feel drawn to, whether that’s a reflective general reading or something more focused on a specific situation you’re navigating.

Some people choose a shorter reflective check-in reading, while others prefer more in-depth tarot spreads exploring emotional patterns, challenges and possible next steps in greater detail.

You don’t need to have a perfectly worded question or know exactly what to ask. Often, part of the reading itself is uncovering what’s already sitting beneath the surface.

Some people also combine tarot with astrology or birth chart readings when they’re looking for a broader understanding of recurring emotional patterns, personality dynamics, or life themes.

Once your reading is booked, I pull and interpret the cards privately with your situation and intentions in mind.

Rather than reading cards individually in isolation, I look at how the cards interact together, repeating themes or patterns, emotional undercurrents and possible areas of tension, growth, or reflection.

I also combine tarot and oracle cards in many of my readings to help build a fuller overall picture.

Your reading is then delivered as a personalised written interpretation rather than a live session or call. That written format allows space for nuance, reflection  and clarity in a way that often feels less overwhelming than trying to process everything in real time.

What You Receive in a Written Online Tarot Reading

Each of my online tarot readings is delivered digitally as a personalised written PDF.

Depending on the type of reading chosen, this may include:

- individual card interpretations

- recurring themes or patterns

- reflective guidance and insight

- oracle card messages where included

- a cohesive summary bringing everything together

Whether someone books a focused tarot reading, a broader reflective spread, or a combined tarot and oracle reading, the goal is always the same: helping create more clarity and perspective around what’s being experienced.

Because the reading is written, you’re able to revisit it whenever you need to rather than relying on memory alone.

For many people, this slower, written approach makes it easier to actually absorb what’s being shared. Instead of trying to process everything immediately, you have space to sit with the reading, revisit it later, and reflect naturally in your own time. That quieter pace is very intentional, and often where the deepest clarity comes from.

Are Online Tarot Readings Accurate?

This is one of the questions I’m asked most often. The honest answer is that tarot accuracy doesn’t really come down to whether the reading is online or face to face.

Online tarot readings are not automatically less personal or less insightful simply because they’re delivered digitally.

What matters far more is:

- the reader’s interpretation

 -the approach being used

- whether the reading feels thoughtful and grounded

- how well the reading connects to your actual situation

I don’t use tarot to predict fixed future outcomes or tell people exactly what will happen. In my own readings, I focus much more on emotional clarity, reflection, and recognising patterns than trying to deliver dramatic predictions or certainty about the future.

Approached in that way, online tarot readings can feel incredibly personal, insightful and meaningful.

What Online Tarot Readings Are (and Aren’t)

I think tarot works best when expectations are clear.

An online tarot reading can help you:

- gain clarity when you feel stuck or overwhelmed

- reflect on what may be influencing a situation

- notice emotional patterns or recurring themes

- explore possibilities without pressure

- feel more grounded during periods of uncertainty

What tarot doesn’t do, at least in my approach, is:

- make decisions for you

- remove your own agency

- guarantee outcomes

- replace professional mental health or medical support

- tell you exactly what you “must” do

Instead, tarot offers a reflective space to slow down and look at things differently. Sometimes clarity arrives immediately. Sometimes it settles in more quietly afterwards. Both are completely normal.

Why Some People Prefer Online Tarot Readings

Many people actively prefer online tarot readings over face-to-face sessions.

A written online tarot reading can feel especially supportive if you:

- feel overwhelmed by live readings

- struggle to process information quickly under pressure

- prefer privacy and quiet reflection

- want time to revisit the reading later

- find comfort in reading and reflecting alone

Many of the people who book readings with me are already overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or carrying a lot mentally, which is why the slower, written format often feels more supportive and manageable for them.

That quieter, slower approach is a large part of why online tarot readings can feel so supportive.

Choosing an Online Tarot Reading That Feels Right

Not all online tarot readings are the same, so it’s worth paying attention to how a reader talks about their work before booking.

Personally, I’d always encourage looking for someone who:

- clearly explains how their readings work

- avoids fear-based language or dramatic claims

- encourages reflection rather than dependency

- focuses on helping you reconnect with your own judgement rather than becoming reliant on readings for every decision

- feels grounded, thoughtful, and clear

Trust matters far more than spectacle.

A Note About My Own Tarot Readings

The online tarot readings I offer are written, reflective, and delivered digitally.

They’re designed to help you step back, explore your situation more clearly, and make sense of what may already be unfolding beneath the surface rather than rushing towards fixed answers or predictions.

Each reading is written individually based on your situation and focuses on clarity, emotional insight, reassurance, and perspective, particularly during periods of uncertainty, transition, or overwhelm.

Alongside tarot and oracle readings, I also offer astrology birth chart readings for people wanting a deeper understanding of personality patterns, emotional tendencies, strengths, and recurring life themes through astrology.

Final Thoughts

Online tarot readings aren’t shortcuts or lesser versions of face-to-face readings.

They’re simply a different way of creating space for reflection, insight, and emotional clarity.

When approached thoughtfully, they can offer guidance without pressure, clarity without urgency, and support without taking away your own agency.

For many people, that quieter distance is exactly what allows the reading to feel meaningful in the first place.
