Ostara 2026: Welcoming Spring

As the cold grip of winter loosens, the earth begins to stir beneath our feet. The days grow longer, the air softens, and signs of new life start to appear. This seasonal shift marks the arrival of Ostara, the Spring Equinox.

When Is Ostara in 2026?

In 2026, Ostara falls on Friday 20 March, a moment of balance when day and night are equal. It’s traditionally seen as the beginning of spring, a time associated with renewal, growth and gentle new beginnings.

What Is Ostara?

Ostara is a pagan sabbat that takes place at the Spring Equinox each year. It marks a point of balance between light and dark, as the wheel of the year turns away from winter and toward the growing season ahead.

Ostara is often linked to themes of renewal, fertility, and hope. While it has roots in older European spring traditions, many modern celebrations focus less on mythology and more on the natural rhythm of the season: noticing change, preparing for growth and welcoming the return of light.

The Themes of Ostara

Ostara is commonly associated with:

  • Renewal and fresh beginnings – letting go of winter’s heaviness and welcoming new energy
  • Balance – reflecting on where things feel steady and where adjustment might be needed
  • Growth – both literal planting and personal intentions taking shape
  • Hope – trusting that progress is unfolding, even if it’s slow

Rather than a time for big transformations, Ostara is about setting things gently in motion.

How to Celebrate Ostara

Celebrating Ostara doesn’t need to be elaborate to feel meaningful. Simple, intentional acts are often the most grounding.

Here are a few ways to mark the Spring Equinox:

Take a Walk in Nature
Notice the subtle changes around you; new shoots, budding trees, birdsong returning. Spending time outdoors is one of the most traditional ways to honour the season.

Plant Seeds
Whether in the garden, in pots, or even symbolically, planting seeds reflects Ostara’s themes of patience, growth and care. What you plant now will take time to grow.

Decorate Eggs
Eggs are a long-standing symbol of new life and potential. Decorating or preparing eggs is a tactile, seasonal way to celebrate Ostara.

Refresh Your Space
Open windows, clear one small area, or bring fresh flowers into your home. This gentle reset mirrors the shift from winter into spring.

Bake or Cook Seasonally
Baking bread or preparing simple spring foods can be a comforting way to mark the change in season and bring warmth into your home.

Ostara Reflection Prompts

Ostara is a natural time for reflection, particularly around balance and beginnings. You might take a moment to consider:

  • What feels ready to grow in my life right now?
  • Where could I bring things back into balance?
  • What am I nurturing, even if it’s still in its early stages?

There’s no need to rush answers. Ostara is about allowing space for things to develop.

Simple Ostara Symbols

If you enjoy working with seasonal symbolism, Ostara is often associated with:

  • Eggs – potential and new beginnings
  • Spring flowers – early growth and renewal
  • Seeds – intentions and patience
  • Fresh, seasonal food – nourishment and return of vitality

These are guides, not requirements - choose what feels meaningful to you.

Embracing Ostara

Ostara marks a moment of balance in the year, where winter begins to loosen and spring starts to take hold. Taking the time to acknowledge that shift — in a way that feels simple and intentional — is often enough to make it meaningful.

Off to spend some to in nature shorty to see if I can see my Buzzard mate as it randomly appears ( a lot of the time previously) when I sit on this one bench and this to me is magical ✨ 🤷🏻‍♀️😁
