At Samhain, the year reaches a threshold. The lighter months are behind us, the darker season lies ahead, and there is a moment to pause before continuing along the path.
Perhaps there are things you want to leave behind, parts of the year you don’t want to forget, or something you know you’ll need more of as winter approaches. The Darkening Path offers a way to spend time with those questions through a reading created for you.
You don’t need to submit a question or decide what your reading should focus on. The path provides the structure, while the cards and any other divination tools used along the way guide what emerges.
This reading offers reflection and guidance. It does not predict fixed events or tell you what will happen.
At the edge of Samhain, an old path winds away from the last light of autumn.
It begins at a gate, passes through the remains of the harvest and disappears beneath the trees. Along the way, you pause at seven symbolic places before reaching the warmth of the inner hearth.
Before stepping through the gate, you pause to explore where you are as Samhain approaches and what you bring with you to the start of this journey.
Beyond the gate, the path passes a field where the season’s harvest has already been gathered.
Here, you look back over the lighter half of the year and recognise what it has given you, including what you have learned, experienced or created.
Leaving the open field behind, the path disappears beneath the trees.
As the familiar landscape becomes harder to see, you explore what may feel uncertain, uncomfortable or difficult to face.
Deeper within the wood, the path opens into a small clearing.
Here, you pause with a memory, connection, experience or former part of yourself that still holds meaning within your journey.
A weathered stone stands beside the path, marking the way ahead.
Here, you pause with the guidance that has come through in your reading. It may speak to your intuition, an ancestral or spiritual connection, or something you’ve sensed but haven’t quite been able to put into words.
The trees open around dark water and the path reaches an old stone bridge.
Before crossing, you explore the grounding, boundaries, practical support or protection that may help you through the transition into the darker months.
On the other side of the bridge, a warm light appears between the trees.
Here, you gather what you have discovered and explore the inner strength, practice or intention that may help you tend your inner hearth throughout the season ahead.
Tarot and Oracle cards form the foundation of your reading. I may also use other divination tools where they can add something useful to your journey, such as Norse or Witches Runes, a pendulum or a divination coin. The methods will depend on what feels relevant to your individual reading.
I’ll bring the guidance from all seven stops together in a detailed PDF, delivered by email. You can read it in your own time and return to it as the darker season unfolds.
Your PDF will include journalling prompts shaped by the guidance in your reading, along with a simple Samhain ritual you can do at home. You won’t need specialist items or an elaborate setup.
