Full Moon in Aries: Finding the Courage to Take Up Space

Full Moon in Aries: Finding the Courage to Take Up Space

Full Moon • 17:49 BST • 26th September 2026

September’s Full Moon falls in Aries and is traditionally known as the Harvest Moon.

Every Full Moon marks the peak of the lunar cycle and is traditionally associated with culmination, awareness and release. Things that have been developing may become more visible, bringing feelings, frustrations or desires into clearer focus.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars, bringing themes of courage, confidence, independence, action and self-assertion. Aries encourages us to recognise what we want, express ourselves more directly and have the confidence to move towards something rather than waiting for permission or approval.

For those of us who spend much of everyday life considering other people, that energy can feel unfamiliar. Compromise and consideration are important, but there also needs to be room for our own wants, opinions and choices.

This Full Moon asks us to consider where we could take up a little more space in our own lives, while remembering that confidence and courage do not have to become impatience or impulsivity.

What Do You Want?

It sounds like a simple question, yet how often do you answer it without immediately considering what somebody else wants, what would be easiest, what makes the most sense or what you think you should choose?

Aries brings the focus firmly back towards the self. This doesn't mean ignoring the people around you. It means allowing your own preferences, opinions and desires to exist without immediately editing them to make them more convenient.

Perhaps you want to try something nobody else around you understands, have an opinion you've been reluctant to express or want more independence in one area of your life. Maybe you're ready to do something differently simply because the old way no longer feels right.

You don't need to justify every preference before you're allowed to have one. Sometimes recognising this matters to me is an important place to begin.

Finding the Balance Between Me and We

The Full Moon in Aries sits opposite the Sun in Libra, creating a natural tension between independence and partnership. Aries asks What do I want? while Libra considers What works for us?

Neither question is more important than the other. There will always be moments when compromise is necessary, particularly when our choices affect partners, families, friends, colleagues or other people in our lives.

But compromise works best when your own opinion is actually part of it. If you automatically change your answer before expressing it, agree because it feels easier or wait for somebody else's approval before doing something that matters to you, there may not be much room left for what you wanted in the first place.

This Full Moon isn't asking you to choose yourself over everybody else. Instead, consider whether you are giving yourself an equal place in the conversation.

Courage Can Be Everyday

Aries courage doesn't have to mean making a dramatic announcement or completely changing your life. Self-assertion can appear in much smaller moments: saying what you actually think, choosing something because you like it, doing something alone rather than waiting for somebody to join you or asking for what you want instead of hoping somebody notices.

It might also mean volunteering for an opportunity before you've had time to talk yourself out of it, starting a conversation you've been avoiding or discovering that you're capable of doing something independently.

Confidence isn't always something we find before taking action. Sometimes it grows because we gave ourselves the opportunity to try.

When Action Turns Into Urgency

Aries is associated with action, drive and momentum. Once something feels clear, the instinct may be to do something about it, and that energy can provide the push to finally make a decision, have a conversation or move forward with something you've spent too long putting off.

But Aries can also bring impatience. I want to do this can quickly become I need to do this right now, particularly when emotions are already heightened around a Full Moon.

Before acting on something significant, consider whether the situation genuinely needs immediate action or whether it simply feels urgent in the moment. Waiting until tomorrow doesn't necessarily mean talking yourself out of it. Sometimes it simply gives you the opportunity to decide where you actually want to direct that energy.

What Are You Ready to Release?

Full Moons are traditionally associated with release, and this Aries Full Moon may bring attention to whatever has been making it harder to express yourself or move forward confidently.

Perhaps you are ready to release:

✦︎ Waiting for permission to do something you want to do.

✦︎ Making yourself smaller to avoid standing out.

✦︎ Holding back an opinion simply because somebody might disagree.

✦︎ Doubting yourself simply because someone else would choose differently.

✦︎ The pressure to act immediately whenever you feel strongly about something.

Being considerate doesn't require you to disappear, just as independence doesn't mean refusing support. There is space between holding yourself back and charging ahead without thinking, and this Full Moon invites you to consider where that balance lies for you.

Journal Prompts for the Full Moon in Aries

✦︎ Where would I like to feel more confident in expressing what I want?

✦︎ Where am I waiting for permission or approval that I may not actually need?

✦︎ What would greater independence look like for me?

✦︎ Where in my life might I need action rather than more thought?

✦︎ Where might impatience be encouraging me to move too quickly?

Choose whichever question stands out rather than feeling you need to answer them all.

A Full Moon in Aries Ritual for Courage and Action

For this ritual, you will need a candle, a piece of paper and a pen. Light your candle and think of one area of your life where you would like to feel a little more confident, independent or willing to take action.

On your paper, write If I were a little braver here, what would I do?

Don't look for the biggest or boldest answer. Write whatever comes to mind, then underneath it write one action you could realistically take.

It might be sending an email, expressing an opinion, trying something alone, asking a question, making a decision or finally doing something you've been putting off.

Before you finish, ask yourself Does this need to happen now?

If it does, decide what your next step will be. If it doesn't, keep your paper somewhere safe and return to it when the initial intensity of the Full Moon has passed.

The purpose isn't to hold yourself back, but to give your courage somewhere useful to go.

Closing Thoughts

The Full Moon in Aries reminds us that there is space between always putting others first and only thinking about ourselves. We can consider the people around us while still being honest about what we want, confident in our choices and willing to act when something matters to us.

Courage does not always require a dramatic leap. Sometimes it is found in speaking more openly, trusting yourself enough to make your own choice or taking a step you might previously have hesitated over. Each of those moments can help build the confidence to act more freely the next time.

As this Full Moon reaches its peak, notice where you are ready to take up a little more space in your own life and where that fiery Aries drive could help you move forward. You do not have to rush simply because you are ready to move. There is strength in knowing what you want, having the confidence to express it and choosing when the time is right to act.
