Are Tarot Readings Accurate? An Honest Answer
Share
If you have ever considered getting a tarot reading, you have probably wondered whether it will actually be accurate or whether you will receive a collection of vague statements that could apply to anyone.
The honest answer is that a tarot reading can feel accurate, personal and relevant, but it should not be treated as a source of guaranteed facts or fixed predictions.
Tarot is interpretive. Its accuracy comes from how the cards are read together, how the interpretation relates to the situation being explored and whether it offers insight that feels meaningful to the person receiving it.
Are Tarot Cards Accurate?
Tarot cards do not provide an objectively measurable answer in the same way as a factual test or calculation.
Each card contains several possible meanings. Its interpretation depends on:
✦ The question or situation being explored
✦ Its position within the spread
✦ The other cards drawn alongside it
✦ The reader’s knowledge and interpretation
✦ The circumstances of the person receiving the reading
For example, the same card might relate to a relationship in one reading and a work situation in another. The surrounding cards and the focus of the reading help establish which meaning is most relevant.
This is why tarot accuracy is not simply about whether an individual card is “right.” It is about whether the complete interpretation relates meaningfully to the situation being explored.
Can Tarot Accurately Predict the Future?
Some tarot readers use the cards predictively, but a reading cannot guarantee that a particular event will happen.
Circumstances change, other people make their own choices and you remain able to respond differently to the situation.
Tarot may show the direction in which something appears to be moving based on the circumstances at the time of the reading. However, this should be understood as a possibility rather than a fixed outcome.
I do not use tarot to predict exact events, dates or guaranteed results. My readings focus on understanding what is happening now, exploring the influences surrounding a situation and identifying perspectives that may help you consider your next steps.
What Affects the Accuracy of a Tarot Reading?
Several things can affect how accurate or relevant a reading feels.
The reader’s interpretation: A thoughtful reading considers how the cards interact rather than relying on separate, memorised meanings. The reader should be able to bring those meanings together into an interpretation that makes sense within the context of the complete spread.
The context provided: You do not need to share every personal detail to receive a reading. However, providing a clear question or general area of focus can help the reader understand what the cards are being asked to explore. A reading about a specific situation can usually be interpreted more precisely than one with no focus at all.
Your expectations: A reading may feel disappointing if you expect it to provide certainty, make a decision for you or confirm the answer you are hoping to receive. Tarot is more useful for exploring a situation than providing unquestionable proof of what will happen.
The style of reading: Different readers approach tarot in different ways. Some focus on prediction, while others use the cards for reflection, spiritual guidance or practical insight. A reading may not feel right if the reader’s approach does not match what you wanted or expected.
Why Do Tarot Readings Sometimes Feel So Personal?
A tarot reading may feel personal because the cards provide a structure through which a particular question, emotion or situation can be explored.
The reader considers the imagery and meanings of the cards alongside the information you have chosen to share. They then look for connections across the spread and interpret how those themes may relate to your circumstances.
A personalised reading should not rely on generic statements or simply repeat individual card definitions. It should explain why the cards may be relevant to the question and how their meanings connect.
Sometimes a reading gives someone language for a feeling or pattern they had already noticed but had not been able to explain clearly. This can be one reason a reading feels particularly accurate.
Are Online Tarot Readings Accurate?
An online tarot reading can be just as personal and relevant as a face-to-face reading.
The value of the reading does not depend on you and the reader being physically in the same room. It comes from the question being explored, the cards drawn and the way the complete spread is interpreted.
When you book one of my written readings, you can share the question, situation or area of life you would like to explore. I draw the cards specifically for your reading and consider how they relate to one another.
Your interpretation is then individually written and presented as a detailed PDF booklet. It is not an automated report or a collection of general card meanings.
A written reading also allows you to take your time with the information and return to it later. Sometimes a particular part of a reading becomes clearer after you have had time to reflect on it or as the situation develops.

Why Might a Tarot Reading Not Feel Accurate?
Not every tarot reading will resonate with every person.
A reading may not feel accurate because:
✦ The interpretation is too vague or general
✦ The reader focuses on a different area than you expected
✦ The style of reading is not right for you
✦ You expected a definite prediction or answer
✦ The question is unclear or covers several unrelated situations
✦ The interpretation simply does not connect with your experience
Sometimes an insight may make more sense after further reflection, but you should not feel pressured to force a meaning onto your situation.
If a reading does not resonate, it is reasonable to acknowledge that. Tarot is interpretive, and no responsible reader should claim that every interpretation will be completely accurate for every person.
What Should You Expect From a Tarot Reading?
A responsible tarot reading should be honest about what it can and cannot offer.
It may help you:
✦ Explore a question or situation from another perspective
✦ Recognise influences or patterns surrounding it
✦ Consider feelings you have struggled to express
✦ Identify possible choices or next steps
✦ Understand the situation with greater clarity
It should not claim to guarantee your future, diagnose a condition or replace professional medical, legal, financial or therapeutic advice.
A reading should also leave room for your own judgement. The cards can offer another perspective, but the decisions you make remain your own.
My Approach to Written Tarot Readings
My Tarot and Oracle Readings focus on clarity, reflection and personal insight rather than fear-based predictions or guaranteed outcomes.
Each reading is completed individually. I draw the cards for your chosen question or focus, interpret how they work together and create a detailed written PDF that includes the cards drawn, their meanings within the reading and the wider themes that appear.
Because everything is provided in writing, you can read it privately, process it at your own pace and revisit it whenever you wish.

So, Are Tarot Readings Really Accurate?
Tarot readings can offer interpretations that feel highly accurate and relevant, but they are not guaranteed predictions or objectively proven facts.
Their value depends on the quality of the interpretation, the context of the reading, the approach of the reader and what you hope to receive from it.
When approached with realistic expectations, tarot can provide a meaningful way to explore a situation, consider another perspective and better understand what may be influencing you at that moment.
